  2. Tomorrow (2021-07-20) getting my two front seats fixed so they have some padding. I think a spring or something is poking the passenger in the ass and the drivers side feels as though a big man use to drive the truck and a big sag in the middle of the seat. Anyhow, its not super comfy at the moment so if I could get both seats re-done, I'll be happy.

Its been a bit so let me give some updates since June 9th.. a lot has happened. 2021-05-25: Brought the truck to DHD (Dirty Hooker Diesel) and while there they did the following: Diagnosed why it was always spilling out black smoke: $125 (labor:125 parts:0) Replaced bad stock turbo with a Danville 63.5mm VGT-N, billet coolant block off-n, up-pipe gasket and blots-N, turbo oil feed banjo-N: $3463.92 (labor:1250 parts:2213.92) Replaced upper and lower balljoints on both sides with Kryptonite balljoints: $962.50 (labor:962.50) Performed a wheel alignment: $70 (labor:70) installed MaxTow Gauges: $375 (labor:375) Diagnosed Low Rail Pressure and replaced fuel test port cap w/NTP-N: $819.99 (labor:800 parts:19.99) TOTAL: $6056.44 2021-06-29: Purchased the DSP5_LBZ tune with the EGR delete from MotorOps: $687.75 TOTAL: $687.75 Today (2021-07-12): picked up my truck from Hank Graff Service work done which included: Replacing Gear Shifter Lever since the Tow Haul button was stuck open (meaning it wasn't engaging tow haul): $232.10 (labor:153.77 parts:78.33) multi-point vehicle inspection (including video): $0.00 note: no issues found with anything on the truck Performed FULL drive line service which included front and rear differential and transfer case service with BG products: $285.85 (labor:100.80 parts:185.05) Replaced both Thermostats: $429.79 (labor: 301.61 parts: 128.18) Performed BG Cooling System Service which includes flush of complete cooling system, replace all coolant, inspect hoses and check for correct freeze protection: $149.17 (labor:100.55 parts:48.62) Performed Oil & Filter change using GM Delvac Oil and A/C Delco Oil Filter: $70.00 (labor:20.75 parts:49.25) TOTAL: $1196.28 So yea I spent some money on my truck in the last couple of months.
  4. Talked to Rich today around 2 and he said new turbo is in, they are working on the ball joints and getting the alignment done this afternoon. Tomorrow (Thursday) all they have left is the gauges. Right now it feels pretty positive I’m getting my truck sometime tomorrow.
  5. Just dropped my truck off at Dirty Diesel Hooker to get new turbo installed, ball joints and the maxtow gauges.
  6. Yesterday I received my dash cluster back from Circuit Medics from changing the soldered on bulbs to LED bulbs and wow does it make a huge difference and they were fast. When Fed-Ex dropped it off it was one business day for them to fix it and ship it out. Very happy with my decision to send it.
  7. I don't like fender flares at all but GM trucks (GMT800) all have them and they collect salt and rust out everything behind the plastic. So I took off my flares and then found my tires just cover my truck in mud, dirt, salt. its just no good but trying to find some decent fender flares that just don't look stupid is tough. Ordered some Bushwacker flares from Vehicle Accessories. Not sure I like them or not. I don’t have a lot of choices.
  8. So what's next for my beauty... Well I'm broke so just some minor updates like: Side Window Tint (if the truck is a rockin....) Window Visors (the slim kind.. I'm tired of getting rain and snow coming in my truck when I need to vent the air in the truck for some reason) The amp override switch (79105-01A Override switch with STA Controller) to open the amp steps and leave them out so when I get a car wash the running boards get clean and so do the rockers. In my opinion amp should just include this switch for all the money we spend. After using it the AMP Running Boards will return to Auto Operation in the next door cycle after 30 minutes. I called Calibrated Power (duramaxtuner.com) found at: 455 Borden St, Woodstock, IL 60098 Talked to Chris which was a pleasure to talk to on the phone, not trying to sell me up on anything but trying to make sure I'm happy with the truck after they are done with it for what I use it for. Tire Size whats on it now are 35x12.50 R18LT 10ply LOAD E range (mainly for the hauling) Also I have Toyo R/T (which is Rugged Terrain which is a mix of the All Terrain tires and the Mud Tires but they are LOUD but not as loud as a mud tire but someone who drives highways alot, stay away from these unless you like to hear your tires always singing) Noise Test with the 35 Toyo R/T tires Toyo35r-t_noise.mp4 But I’ve been interested in some better mileage and the key is to go more narrow of a tire. Possibly move to a 33 but trucks with a 6" lift and 33" tires looks awful in my opinion. So I wanted the Toyo Open Country ATiii tires but apparantly every store is out of them and back ordered until mid 2021 so I went with my #2 choice which I run on my 91 K5 and my wife's 4runner.. the BFGoodrich KO2's Somehow I got rims as well.   14. Removed the fender flares (dirt/salt traps) initial removal after I hosed off the Dirt and did my first pass with the eraser wheel it appears the stock fender flares rubbed right through the paint in spots. I brought it to Clarkston Auto Body and they said they can repaint it for around $1200
  15. Changing the glow plugs fixed the check engine light. one side of the truck they used seize and it was pretty easy to change, the other side they didn't use seize and had after market glow plugs and was a bitch to change.
  16. A common issue with the GM 6.6L Duramax engine is white smoke at idle. Worn and damaged injectors are often the cause however there are other causes and considerations that should be looked at prior to injector replacement. INJECTORS STUCK OPEN OR WITH EXCESSIVELY LEAKING NOZZLES DIANOSIS 1. Remove IGN 1 relay. 2. Remove the glow plug from the suspect cylinder(s). 3. Crank the engine and check for fuel spray coming out of the glow plug hole. Caution: Make sure you are not in front of the glow plug hole during this process. 4. Replace any injectors on the cylinders that spray fuel. During this step make sure it was fuel and not coolant that was discharged. 5. Change the engine oil and filter. COOLANT LEAKING INTO CYLINDER DIAGNOSIS 1. Coolant may enter the cylinder from a damaged seal between the fuel injector sleeve and the cylinder head. The injector sleeve is often dislodged during an injector removal. 2. Remove the glow plugs and the IGN 1 relay and pressurize the cooling system to 15-17 PSI. 3. Crank the engine and check for coolant spray coming out of the glow plug hole. Caution: Make sure you are not in front of the glow plug hole during this process. 4. If no coolant is present and the vehicle has a history of low coolant level, check the rest of the cooling system, head gaskets and the EGR cooler for leaks. GLOW PLUG + INTAKE AIR HEATER CHECK The Glow Plug System continues to operate for a time after a cold start to reduce white smoke and improve idle quality. Perform a glow plug system and intake air heater check even if there is no complaint of a cold start problem. OTHER ITEMS TO CHECK 1. Engine compression. 2. Dilution of the oil with fuel. 3. Engine coolant temperature sensor. 4. Rail pressure sensor. 5. Proper fuel supply to the high-pressure pump. 6. Fuel Rail Pressure Regulator (FRPR) operation.
  17. Changed the glow plugs in my LBZ Duramax Diesel and learned a few things. First, why did I jump into this project? Whenever it was cold out (which is often here in Michigan) the glow plug would come on and when it went away the Check Engine light would stay on. So I pulled out my spade tuner and read the code which was ECM P0672. Review what the code is its defined basically everywhere as a semi generic code but with some specifics like what cylinder to troubleshoot So which one is the #2 Not that it really matters since when you are changing them its always recommended that you replace all of them. Passenger side (1,3,5,7) easier to access than drivers side (2,4,6,8) since nothing is blocking access to the glow plugs on the passenger side. I started the drivers side and cylinder 2 was blocked by intake (easy, just remove on top and it gives you enough room to get around it) and cylinder 4 was blocked by the steering shaft. There is a bolt that holds it together, just take that out (don't let it spin on ya or your steering wheel won't be lined up). I purchased AC-Delco Glow Plugs (8 of them was $162). Now what I was disappointed on was I saw all the YouTube videos showing how bad Beru Glow Plugs are and said to myself, I'm not buying that crap, I'll stick with factory AC Delco and come to find out that AC Delco glow plugs are Beru made in Germany. Dang it! Went to the passenger side and discovered all those turned out to be DieselRX glow plugs and who ever put them in did not put any anti-seeze and thats all kinds of bad. Steel Glow Plugs on Aluminum block and they did NOT want to come out. I was worried of breaking them in the block but was lucky to be able to remove them and replace them with the AC-Delco glow plugs. Of course bad luck kept coming with a broken glow plug wire on #1 so had to do some wiring (which I can't stand having something not factory but replacing a glow plug wiring hardness looked to be a pain in the butt so we'll see how well the patch does.) Cylinder 3 & 5 when those glow plugs were removed, were coated in oil but its been said thats okay/normal. Apparantly there is a pit in which the glow plug sits and oil collects down in that pit while the glow plug is in place. Once you pull out the glow plug the oil will drain into the cylinder, which is fine, you will burn the oil off once you start and drive your truck. I took a photo of what it looks like on these DieselRX glow plugs. So now no more check engine light.
  18. Now getting a Check Engine light when the glow plugs are trying to warm up the engine to start. Checking for codes it shows ECM P0672 which is a bad glow plug in cylinder #2 which is about $20 for the glow plug and looks like its a do it yourself type of job. Its like changing a skinny, tiny spark plug.
  19. Added EFI Live DSP5 and a TCM tune all from calibrated power (duramaxtune). Now just trying to get the truck to find its groove. It doesn't feel like it knows what to do. I have been keeping it in Position 1 which is the stock+ tune and I plan on keeping it here until it feels like its regained the normal shifting and driving and then I'll kick it to Position 4 which is the Eco mode to get those high miles per gallon (especially driving back and forth to Detroit for Kate's Chemo). Then Position 2 and 3 are for towing which will also come in handy. You can tow with Position 1 (stock+ tune) but position 2 and 3 just add some benefits you only really need when towing and its based on load. Position 2 is Heavy Load (over 8000 lbs of weight your towing) Position 3 is for Light Load (under 8000# towing). Position 5 is for race tuning with stock equipment but could still mess up some crap so the suggestion is not not use it often if you can hold yourself back.. we know you won't be able to.
  20. Saturday (2020.04.11) performed Trans Filter (internal and spin on external) replacement as well as 3 gallons of new fluid and the internal trans filter lock and a new deep sump pan. Miles: 104,000

It arrived yesterday and discovered some surprises Fuel Filter is at 1% Only 1 key and 1 Viper keyfob Viper Keyfob doesn't lock/unlock or remote start vehicle Steering Wheel Controls don't light Fuel Gauge moves super slow (not sure if its accurate) No way to lock/unlock doors GM Delco Radio (6 disc) doesn't support MP3 CDs Steps are right up against truck. Fuel Filter No big deal, ordered some AC Delco Fuel Filters on Amazon for $30/each. Pretty easy to change Key issue When I find a dealership that is open, I'll get two new keys cut and programmed if needed Keyfobs I may purchase two factory ones or just get a remote start put in that would replace keyfobs anyways. This will hopefully fix the lock/unlock issue as well. Steering Wheel Controls Not a major issue but it appears Dorman sells these on Amazon for about $100 for all four controls. Heard the cable is super short so replacement can be challenging. Fuel Gauge Internet said to run Fuel Cleaner through system for three fill up's and see if it cleans the float/sending unit which could be sticking. If issues still exist then take the cluster out and send to Circuit Board Medics for repair (have them change bulbs to LED while they have it.. might as well also send the auto temp cluster for LEDs and anything else while the cluster is apart. Radio This is something I don't want to change but will because with a lifted truck especially, I need to see if anyone is behind me. It's more difficult to judge distance. Also I love Apple Carplay feature so I can listen to Spotify. Radio now a days is difficult to find a station anymore near me since everyone seems to be on SirusXM Steps The steps on this truck are useless. They are tucked so close to the truck its more of a rock slider than a step. My plan is to move to AMP Research Power Steps which will help my wife greatly since she can't easily get in the truck due to the chemo. This is my priority right now and the Fuel Filter.

Curb Weight: 5,883 Lbs. When the LBZ was introduced to replace the LB7, the LB7’s injector issues had long been solved and the overheating issues associated with the LLY were a thing of the past. This engine’s beefier block casting, stronger connecting rods, higher pressure common-rail fuel system and updated ECM arguably made it the most powerful, drivable, reliable and tunable Duramax to date. Right out of the box, the LBZ produced 360hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. During this time frame (’06-‘07), these numbers not only outperformed the 6.0L Power Stroke’s 325hp and 570 lb-ft, but they beat out the 325hp and 610 lb-ft figures put up by the 5.9L Cummins as well. The LBZ was also the first Duramax to be coupled to the six-speed Allison 1000 automatic, which proved capable of handling more power than the five-speed version that preceded it. Diesel enthusiasts longingly remember the LBZ as the last Duramax built before the modern day emissions crunch kicked in, which spawned pollution control technology that reduced fuel economy and greatly hampered long-term engine durability. Arguably the most highly sought after Duramax ever built is the LBZ Duramax. More meat exists in the lower section (big end) of the rod than what you’ll find on LB7 The beefier I-beam style rods bring more mass to the rotating assembly Connecting rods were the strongest found in any Duramax up to that time GM cast slightly more webbing into the main bearing regions of the LBZ’s gray-iron block for added horsepower and torque Unfortunately nothing is perfect and in this case the LBZ pistons weren’t up to the task of surviving in higher horsepower applications. The cast-aluminum pistons are highly susceptible to cracking. The LBZ piston’s use of wrist pin bushings is also believed by many to be a contributing factor in OEM piston failure, along with a thinner wrist pin being utilized. When a piston lets go, you definitely know it, as it’s accompanied by a nasty miss, excessive blow-by and smoke out the exhaust.
