NITROCROSS RETURNS TO ITS ROOTS OCTOBER 5TH-6TH
For the second event of the 2024-25 season, Nitrocross is heading back to where it all began: Utah Motorsports Campus.
First opened in 2006, Utah Motorsports Campus has hosted a range of different series over the years, from top-level sports car racing to drifting, and motorcycle racing, too. In 2018, the series hosted the Nitro World Games, where Nitrocross was born. A follow-up event was held a year later, before Nitrocross evolved into a full season competition in 2021, with UMC again hosting the season opener.
In what will be its fifth visit to UMC, two full Nitrocross Championship Rounds will take place across Saturday and Sunday. The Nitrocross 2024-25 racing season includes 10 rounds of racing at different venues across North America, with unique tracks featuring a variety of terrains at each location. Salt Lake City is the second stop on the season’s schedule, presenting a unique set of storylines: Those who fared well in the season opener will be keen to keep up that momentum, while those that struggled will need to kickstart their chase for the Ken Block Championship Trophy now while the season’s still young.
The all-electric Group E category is the headline class, featuring the FC1-X, which is now entering its third season of competition. With around 1,000 horsepower and a 0-60 time of 1.5 seconds, the FC1-X is one of the most capable cars around, delivering intensely close racing. New for 2024-25, NEXT EVO is Nitrocross’ top development class, and features the all-new sustainably-fueled FC2 race car. Side-by-Sides are once again attracting a sizable entry list, boasting plenty of star power, with rising NASCAR star Haillie Deegan joining the party alongside three members of the Block family, two-time Baja 1000 winner Terry Madden, and class regulars Travis Pastrana and Kainan Baker. And finally, fan favorites, the Baja Bugs, are back. They might lack the speed and prestige of the other categories, but they more than make up for that in entertainment value, with some of the closest contests you’re likely to see.
New for 2024-2025, The SxS class moves to the Can-Am Maverick R, with drivers competing in identically prepared machines modified by Rival Motorsports. Defending SxS champion and Round 2 winner Kainan Baker will battle Kory Willis, Luke Roberts, Round 1 winner Cash LeCroy, Gray Leadbetter, Jacob Rosales, Mia Chapman, Hailie Deegan, Jacob Geisendorff, Nate Wessel, and Tyler Remmereid. They’ll be joined on Saturday by Lucy Block, Terry Madden, and NRX founder Travis Pastrana. On Sunday, Kira and Mika Block and Banks Hovey will race; with 14 Maverick Rs, the SxS class will be the largest racing division of the weekend.
Tickets are available for purchase via nitrocrossracing.com or at the UMC Box Office.
