Do you plan on overlanding in extreme temperatures and weather patterns? Do you find yourself wishing for a compact, high-powered cook system that won’t quit when the going gets tough? If you answered “Yes!”, or even “…maybe” to both those questions, you’ll want to check out the brand-new Primus Ulti Stove system.

The ISPO award-winning stove was first announced in the summer of 2023, with plans to launch the sleek little stove in spring 2024 — but due to some development delays, the launch was delayed… until now. The system includes a hard-anodized aluminum pot and lid, low-profile radiation disk burner and a remote canister hose system that allows fuel canisters to be flipped upside-down for use in colder weather.

So, what sets the Ulti apart from other stove systems? Even though it looks eerily reminiscent of the popular JetBoil, the Ulti packs a different punch. Its main distinguisher from the competition, and the reason it won an ISPO award, comes down to one unique feature: the 10,000-BTU (3,000-W) burner. Unlike other cook systems that rely on an open (if controllable) flame, the Ulti uses a catalytic combustion process that produces infrared radiation — no flame required, and nothing for the wind and rain to snuff out.

“By mixing fuel and air inside the burner and using a powerful catalyst, this system supercharges the process,” Primus explains. “The catalyst – a specialized metal alloy – dramatically reduces the energy needed for heating. This results in faster, more efficient and complete fuel burn. More heat, less waste.”

Primus claims the Ulti is the most wind-resistant, powerful cooking solution the 130-year-old brand has ever made. And while infrared stoves are nothing new, seeing one as tiny, compact and efficient as Primus’ new entry into the category is definitely unique. If you’re interested in picking up an Ulti Stove System for your next adventure, these are available for $280 for the 1.0 liter and $300 for the 1.7 liter.
