Volvo’s EX30 and EX90 finally set to arrive in the U.S., can they outshine Tesla and Rivian?

The Volvo EX30 took Europe by storm, and now it’s finally arriving in the United States. Volvo’s smallest electric crossover isn’t coming to our shores alone, though. It’s bringing its much larger sibling, the Volvo EX90, along for the ride. What do these Swedish SUVs offer, and can they take on the already established competition?

The Volvo EX30 starts at $44,900

Starting at $44,900 MSRP, the 2025 Volvo EX30 is the most affordable EV in Volvo’s SUV lineup. It comes equipped with dual electric motors that pump out 422 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. According to Volvo, the speedy electric crossover reaches 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. Regardless of model, the EX30 features a 69 kWh battery.

While it may be small, that kind of performance comes at a price. The 2025 Volvo EX30 offers up to 253 miles on a single charge and can charge from 10% to 80% in just 26.5 minutes. The all-electric crossover can also tow up to 2,000 lbs. when properly equipped.

Capable of seating up to five passengers comfortably, the EX30 boasts up to 27.8 cu ft. of cargo space thanks to the flat-folding two-split rear seat. In terms of tech, a 12.3-inch touchscreen display comes standard, as does a wireless phone charger.

While the base Volvo EX30 Plus starts at $44,900, it doesn’t come with all the safety features you could ask for. The top-spec Ultra trim carries a slightly higher price tag, starting at $46,600, and includes Park Pilot Assist, Lane Change Assist, Pilot Assist, a 360-degree camera, and a low-speed rear auto brake.

The Volvo EX90 is pricier, but for good reason

If you have a family, large dogs, or just need plenty of space, the 2025 Volvo EX90 will fit the bill. As the largest all-electric SUV that Volvo offers, the new EX90 features seating for up to seven passengers and 67.6 cu ft. of cargo space. If you want to switch to six seats, it’ll cost you an extra $500.

Regardless of trim or powertrain, the Volvo EX90 features a 111 kWh battery that charges from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes when connected to a DC fast charger. When properly equipped, the EX90 can tow up to 4,850 lbs.

Final thoughts

The 2025 Volvo EX30 looks like a pretty solid competitor in the EV space, even if its range does seem a little underwhelming. Still, with an upscale interior and exceptional performance, I can’t really complain that much about Volvo’s smallest EV.

As for the EX90, it’s a spacious vehicle for the whole family and a couple of dogs, but its price could put it out of reach for many consumers. The full-size electric SUV has a few competitors, including the Cadillac Lyriq and Rivian R1S, that could give it some trouble stateside.
