So many pro's to hit trails with a ATV or UTV or SxS versus your vehicle. Why? One of the biggest reasons is many people drive the vehicle they are off-roading and when that breaks you have no way home and costs start piling up. With a ATV or UTV or SxS you trailer it to your destination, beat it up and/or do whatever and even if it happens to break, you can get it back to the trailer and you still have a ride home.
I've owned many of the top brands in ATV, UTV and SxS and I have my pers
Are you one of guys or girls that want to travel the world on a motorcycle or hit the trails on your dirt bike. We feel ya and that's why we have some clubs and blogs focused just on Bikes.
Check out the Blogs that focus on Motorcycles by clicking here
People have created some bike clubs that you may want to join or create your own club. All of the clubs focused on bikes can be found here
What is the street scene? It's focusing on muscle cars, low riders, Dairy Queeners (offroad looking trucks that don't drive even on dirt roads), drag racing, circle tracks and more. You probably get the gist. The street community is all about beauty on the asphalt.
Personally I've always been a huge muscle car fan. Went through my phases of owning several classic muscle cars. Here you can share your projects or builds. Talk in the garage and maybe help someone out if they have questio
So what the heck is Gear Crushers all about? In short, we have so many passions that we couldn't pick just one. We love all of it! Too many websites and clubs are focused on one passion but we like everything. We believe we can love more than just one passion.
How many times have you gone to a website and invested time in adding and contributing to the community to have them change or just call it quits. Or you belong to a website that never gets updated.. yawn. We are tired of bein
At some moment in your life you were introduced to the world of offroad and if you were like me, you fell in love with it. The challenges, the obstacles and tackling a course that looks impossible to the untrained eye. Something so peaceful when exploring areas not many could get to or want to.
Here at Gear Crushers off-roading is just one of the many passions we have and we want to provide an area that everyone from anywhere in the world can contribute. The easiest is to create a club a
This blog will start as a story of how I use to have many jobs but life was passing me by as I was on a constant spiral down from any life whatsoever. Including missing my family and friends it just lost its appeal. My thought process was work as much as I can while I can because you never know when you just can't anymore. Well that was nice but all you do is spend more money instead of save the extra money or try to get ahead by possibly paying off the monster debt. Not me, I apparently have
We have a small bit of land in Davison, MI with a beginner offroad trail that at times requires some technique to get through some tight spots. I had my wife drive our 97 Chevy 1500 pickup through the trail to see how these new blacklion tires do. Not too bad but if the mud is thick they cake pretty bad and won't clear out. So she got stuck
So obviously I had to walk up to the house and get the K5 and pull her out which obviously the most difficult part was walking from the back of
I have two boys that love to run there four wheelers around our 9 acres but watching them drive reckless (like they are unstoppable) made me gather some videos I wanted them to watch to bring them back to reality and show them other kids that also thought they were unstoppable until they were stopped dead in there tracks.

No matter if you are into Nascar or Offroad racing or whatever we all need to communicate. CB Radios are a thing of the past. From reading articles, forums and other online research they all lead to either BaoFeng Radios or the more expensive Rugged Radios. Pros and Cons to both. They can both be programmed with the freeware software called Chirp (its available on Mac, Windows, Linux).

A common question is "what modifications should I make to my vehicle to make it trail worthy?" Reading the offroad magazines, you might think gears, lockers, armor and a radical suspension is required. Below is our take on what it takes to Fool Around offroad. Note that modifications are listed in order of importance and each level assumes you have done everything in the previous step.
Before doing any modifications, make sure you are starting with a good platform. M
Every vehicle should carry these and they should be securely fastened down (like everything else). You should be able to reach the flashlight and fire extinguisher from your seat. Factory seat belts do not release if you are upside down (don't ask how we know this).
First aid kit (include any of your family's special needs like EpiPens or insulin)
Complete change of clothes
Full size spare tire
At the beginning of a trail ride it is common to introduce yourself. Include a nickname or handle that is easy for everyone else to remember. Be sure to figure out the name or handle of the people in front and behind you. This way you can get on the CB and say something like "Hey Turtle, stay to the left at the top of that hill."
Chatter can liven things up, but limit it to easy sections of the trail. You don't want to be telling a long joke while someone else needs to w

It's the dreaded 7-Way RV plug that we all have come to know and love. Most new vehicles equipped with a tow package have connectors. Trailers with electric brakes need them too. The 7-Way Trailer Plug is a round 2" diameter connector that allows an additional pin for an auxiliary 12-volt power or backup lights. It is usually used for towing a heavy-duty landscaping trailer, car trailer, boat trailer, horse trailer, travel trailer, construction trailer, and larger trailers
Here are some tips (always growing) of items to bring with you on your adventure

So many choices we have for communicating with everyone in the club/group/adventure.
CB Radio is the most old school and cheapest and WAS the most popular radio found in anything offroad.
Ham Radio is probably the rarest of radios in the offroad community. Just way more intense.
FRS is the blister packs you get from Walmart, Meijer, Target.. basically in any store you see the two way Family Radios. About the same distance as CB but more portable. Typical output is .5 wat

What are my goals?
I want everything.. offroad capability and yet this is my daily driver as well as it has to tow the largest and heaviest fifth wheel travel trailer
What have I been looking at?
Really impressed with Diesel Power Products Nomad build of a Ram 2500. Looks like I could
So my 2013 Dodge RAM 3500 had an issue with the DEF pump and injector ($2500 in parts) so I had to get a rental since the repair was going to be roughly two weeks due to lack of parts. At first enterprise gave me a Dodge Journey.. what a serious piece of crap that was. I couldn't drive it more than a day and had to exchange it for something else, anything else. I paid for an upgrade (spoil myself) on the Nissan Armada. Never drove one before and figured this is the perfect opportunity to se
My wife and I are freezing our asses off in our own home unless I crank the furnace up to 68 degrees which is crazy to think. I remember as a kid we were never cold in the house but we always had a wood burner in the home (most of the homes it was in the basement). It would get some warm in the house that windows had to be opened in the home in the middle of winter to let out some of the hot and let in some of the cool weather.
So now I'm a grown up and freezing my ass off in this home th
Yesterday I'm chugging along, keyboard pounding at my job and I get a call from my sister that she was notified by dispatch that our dad is being transported to the hospital via an ambulance. Now my dad isn't a young man and he's considered overweight. The information she has is that his nose is pouring blood and he can't get it to stop, dizziness, shortness of breath so he calls for an ambulance to get him to the hospital.
What a scary feeling. Of course my primary mode of transpo
So, I do Robotics. 2017 was the first year for me and I was exited to get started. But of corse it took forever to start. Very boring at first. All we talked about was the game and none about the robot it self. After like a week of it we finally started talking and planning out but I did not help much because they are on the second year of robotics and its only my first. We were the first middle school group that made it to states but unfortunately we did not win to compete against the high scho

Tomorrow (2021-07-20) getting my two front seats fixed so they have some padding. I think a spring or something is poking the passenger in the ass and the drivers side feels as though a big man use to drive the truck and a big sag in the middle of the seat. Anyhow, its not super comfy at the moment so if I could get both seats re-done, I'll be happy.
Its been a bit so let me give some updates since June 9th.. a lot has happened.
2021-05-25: Brought the truck to DHD (Dirty Hooker Diesel) and while there they did the following:
Diagnosed why it was always spilling out black smoke: $125 (labor:125 parts:0)
Replaced bad stock turbo with a Danville 63.5mm VGT-N, billet coolant block off-n, up-pipe gasket and blots-N, turbo oil feed banjo-N: $3463.92 (labor:1250 parts:2213.92)
Replaced upper and lower balljoints on both
Talked to Rich today around 2 and he said new turbo is in, they are working on the ball joints and getting the alignment done this afternoon.
Tomorrow (Thursday) all they have left is the gauges.
Right now it feels pretty positive I’m getting my truck sometime tomorrow.
Yesterday I received my dash cluster back from Circuit Medics from changing the soldered on bulbs to LED bulbs and wow does it make a huge difference and they were fast. When Fed-Ex dropped it off it was one business day for them to fix it and ship it out. Very happy with my decision to send it.
