AN OIL FILTER IS AN OIL FILTER…. ISN’T IT?

A DIRT WHEELS FAN WRITES: “I have a Polaris Ranger 570 full size and I am getting shocked as to how much a genuine OEM Polaris oil filter is. Over $25 for a simple spin on filter?? Boss, what do you think of the Sollon spin on filter for less than $10 on Amazon?” – Chris Cole, Chapmanville, WV

OUR PRO ANSWER: So let me get this straight, Son, you want to trust your engine’s lubrication system to an unknown Chinese manufacturer with unknown filter paper characteristics? Does that filter paper filter to the OEM specifications of 10 microns? With documentation to prove it? Or flow the required amount of oil at the OEM specified pressure drop? Is the glue holding the filter paper going to prevent the collapse of the filter paper, effectively shutting down oil flow thru the filter? If I didn’t want to spend the dollars for an OEM filter, then I would at least stick to a powersports brand of filter that has a proven track record in the industry. Since $10 is apparently your price point, I would look at the EMGO brand of spin-on oil filter, #10-82260, that currently retails for less than $10 here: https://www.denniskirk.com/emgo/oil-filter/2022-polaris-ranger-570-sp-crew-eps-northstar-mid-size.mmy. Remember Son, just because Amazon sells it, doesn’t make it a good product! And don’t even get me started about all the 5 star reviews of the product. How many were paid for and how many are just out right fake?
