DO I REALLY NEED ALL THESE AFTERMARKET PARTS?

A DIRT WHEELS FAN WRITES: “I was looking to purchase a 2024 Polaris XP1000 S Scrambler. However, it seems like my Dealer is trying to talk me out of purchasing it! He says that I need to replace front diff bearings, add a diff support plate, steering tie rod, tie rod ends and the drag link tie rod ends. Boss, is the 1000 Scrambler that poorly built that after spending $18K on one, that I should immediately start upgrading all those components?” – Jamie Clark, North Platte, NE

OUR PRO ANSWER: Some of what your Dealer stated can be true if you race or ride like you stole it! The drag link tie rod ends do seem to wear out faster than I would like. One thing he didn’t mention is the steering bushing. It tends to dry out and squeak. I suggest replacing it with a Yamaha Grizzly Teflon bushing. Also keep an eye on the lower EPS (Electric Power Steering) clamp. There are reports of this clamp loosening over time. And just to be on the safe side, I would replace the square pucks in the secondary clutch with round rollers for longer life and reduce the chance of clutch damage. No machine is perfect and there are many XP 1000 Sportsman models out there with no upgrades at all. So you could not do a thing and ride for many miles before any deficiencies show up. But, if you intend to keep the machine for a long time and/or ride hard, then maybe invest in some of the above upgrades to save you money in the long run.
