Leota Trail System
Leota Trail System
Missaukee, Roscommon & Clare Counties, Michigan
Trailhead/Parking: 44.15351 -84.85960 (Leota ORV Trailhead, Jonesville Rd, Harrison, MI 48625)
The Leota Trail traverses the terrain along the Muskegon River just north of the town of Harrison. The trail is open for ATVs 50 inches or less in width and offers scenic and rugged landscape for exploration. The area varies in terrain from views of the river to rocky hillsides. The trail has some rocky sections and lots of small ups and downs but no major obstacles or climbs. The Leota trail system also connects to the Denton Creek Trail which offers over 30 more additional miles for riding. A Michigan ORV license and trail permit are required for riding.
VVMapping says,”ORV Trail. Generally sandy with rocks and hills towards the north. Usually whooped near staging area. Many loop options.
What brought us to the Leota Trail System is…
- 50″ trails (so ATVs and Dirtbikes mainly)
- Lots of positive reviews
- within 2 hour drive from home (day trip)
- 3hours of trail riding (average) **Connects to Denton Creek trail system if you want more
We will be going first weekend in May (weather should still be somewhat cool but its the Saturday before its 80 out so not sure thats going to be true)
First thing is First.. how to get to parking/trailhead/starting point.. Just put your destination as: Leota ORV Trailhead, Jonesville Rd, Harrison, MI 48625 (works in Google Maps)
Next, how to prepare for the day?
- Snacks
- Lots of water
- fuel (depending on what range you can get on your ATV or Dirtbike)
- Is there a fueling station you can drive your vehicle to or do you need to bring fuel
