When the front end came down one of the broken branches, it came right through the passenger floorboard (Kinda reminds me of a Vietnam punji stick). It missed his girlfriend’s sneaker by a half inch and scraped up the side of her leg. They had to walk back to the barn, and we used a tractor with a loader to lift the front end off the log and punji stick. So, now we have a not so nice hole in the passenger floorboard. Got any suggestions on how to repair the hole? Son said he could plastic weld it closed. But I think there must be a better solution and in hopes you have it.” – David Harris, Godfrey, IL
OUR PRO ANSWER: That was a frightening situation! I do like the punji stick reference! As you have already noticed, Polaris only protected the front frame rails with their factory skid plate. You might want to invest in a full body UHMW skid plate. But that is big bucks. The plastic floor can be plastic welded or replaced with a new replacement part, P/N 5439109-070. Or you can armor just the driver and passenger compartment with aluminum floorboards from the ATV Guard Shop here: https://www.atvguardshop.com/store/p15/2018_2019_Polaris_Ranger_1000_Crew_Floorboards.html#/. The cheapest fix would be plastic weld the floorboard and install the ATV Guard Shop aluminum floorboards. Those will provide adequate protection from future punji sticks!
