There are few rigs online that have been as meticulously documented as the MuseRoamer. The vehicle was built by Andrew Muse, and as the name suggests, was his DIY version of the half-a-million-dollar EarthRoamer. As is often the case, the project required significantly more time and money than expected (the build series can be enjoyed on YouTube). However, after more than a year of hard work, the completed rig was revealed and surpassed all expectations. Like the EarthRoamer, this expedition package is underpinned by a Ford F-550 (2004 with 128,500 miles), which boasts a “bulletproofed” (see details here) 6.0-liter Power Stroke diesel motor, a heavy-duty 4WD system, a comfortable cab interior, and a considerable payload and towing capacity. This pinnacle foundation was then extensively uprated from the ground up for backcountry exploration with a lifted and uprated suspension, Buckstop Truckware single-wheel conversion, armor, and much more. The chassis was topped with a custom four-season-ready habitation cell, which boasts generous storage and amenities for extended stays off-grid. Highlights include a large lithium house battery system, 72 gallons of freshwater, climate control with air-conditioning and a furnace, a dedicated workstation with a 4K monitor and sound bar, wet bath, and a well-appointed kitchen. Needless to say, it’s a legitimate rolling home, and at $179,000 OBO, it represents impressive value when considering the cost to recreate or comparable off-the-shelf options. Finally, like Andrew, many of us utilize our rigs to enjoy the great outdoors, and I love that the build is centered around experiences in nature. With its large exterior Vorsheer bed storage lockers and rear boxes, large underfloor storage, roof rack, and roof box, this is not just a comfortable home but a mobile gear locker that enables the adventurer to pack everything necessary to maximise time in the great outdoors. So, if you’re looking to finally take that big trip or transition to life on the road full-time, look no further.

MuseroamerFrom the Seller:

I followed this build on Expedition Portal and YouTube and jumped at the chance to buy this dream rig last winter. I have taken it from Utah to Colorado to Idaho to New Mexico and back to Utah, and I’m now back home outside Durango, Colorado. After our travels, we have decided to sell as we are shifting our focus to more time traveling by bike. I have updated the original ad with it’s current location and miles (3,000 so far and counting). The builder (who happens to be a great guy) is also a pro photographer and sent pics to show off this gem, as the pics and ad may look familiar to Expedition Portal regulars. This one-of-a-kind expedition vehicle was crafted over two years, with over $190,000 invested to be rugged, practical, and adventure-ready.”
